XRP Bridge Hack Drains Almost 200K Tokens in a Verification Flaw
Aug 12, 2026
A bridge connecting XRP Ledger and Coreum lost almost 200,000 XRP after an attacker found a flaw in its verification logic. Here's what we know.
A cross-chain bridge linking the XRP Ledger and Coreum got hit on August 9th, and it wasn't small. The attacker managed to pull out close to 199,916 XRP, dropping the bridge's balance from around 200,410 XRP down to just 493.5 XRP. That's basically the whole pot, gone.
How it happened
According to on-chain analysis, this wasn't a hack of the XRP Ledger itself, and there was no private key leak either. Instead, the attacker found a weak spot in the bridge's verification logic on the Coreum side, and used it to slip funds out that shouldn't have moved.
The real lesson here
This is a good reminder that bridges are usually the weakest link in crypto, not the base chains they connect. XRP Ledger and Coreum are both fine on their own, the code stitching them together is where the risk lives.
Bottom line: if you're using cross-chain bridges, keep an eye on audits and don't leave funds parked there longer than you need to.
