Trump-Backed World Liberty Financial Just Got a Green Light From US Regulators
Aug 15, 2026
World Liberty Financial just landed a conditional trust charter, putting its $4 billion USD1 stablecoin under federal watch.
World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture with backing from the Trump family, just picked up a pretty big win. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted the company a conditional national trust bank charter.
In simple terms, this means World Liberty can now put its stablecoin, USD1, worth around $4 billion, under direct federal oversight instead of operating in a greyer regulatory zone.
Why this matters
Getting a nod from a federal banking regulator is a big deal for any stablecoin issuer. It gives USD1 more legitimacy and could make banks, exchanges, and bigger institutions more comfortable working with it.
It also fits into a bigger pattern lately: US regulators slowly warming up to stablecoins, as long as they play by clearer rules. With political backing and now a federal charter in progress, World Liberty is positioning itself as a serious player in the stablecoin race, not just a side project.
