Wall Street Is Quietly Testing Tokenized Treasuries in the Repo Market
Oct 15, 2026
Big banks and trading firms are running real trades with tokenized U.S. Treasuries and stablecoins, and it might be the clearest sign yet that traditional finance is actually building on-chain.
Traditional Finance Keeps Inching Onto the Blockchain
For years, "tokenized Treasuries" mostly lived in pilot programs and press releases. That's starting to change. Several major financial players have been running live repo trades using tokenized U.S. Treasuries as collateral, swapped against stablecoins like USDC, instead of just talking about it.
A repo trade is pretty simple at its core: you sell an asset for cash with a promise to buy it back later, usually the next day, at a slightly higher price. It's one of the most basic plumbing tools in finance. The twist now is that the "asset" and the "cash" can both live on a blockchain.
Why This Actually Matters
These trades are happening outside normal banking hours, which is the real headline here. Settlement has traditionally been boxed into a weekday window. Doing it on-chain opens the door to something closer to 24/7 settlement.
It's not a revolution overnight, but when custodians, trading venues, and some of the biggest names in finance are all testing the same rails, it's worth paying attention to where this goes next.
