SBI Completes Bitbank Takeover to Fully Own Japan Crypto Exchange

SBI Holdings completed its acquisition of Japanese crypto exchange Bitbank on October 1, making the platform a wholly owned subsidiary.

SBI Holdings has completed its takeover of Bitbank, turning the Japanese crypto exchange into a wholly owned subsidiary after the final share steps closed on October 1, 2026.

Bitbank repurchased the shares still held by MIXI and Ceres, which wrapped up the deal SBI first outlined in a June agreement. Coverage of the transaction puts the overall package around ¥46.7 billion. Bitbank said customer services stay the same after the ownership change.

What changes next

Board updates followed the closing, including closer ties with SBI VC Trade, while Bitbank plans to lean on the wider SBI Group for product and customer growth. For traders watching Asia, a major broker fully owning a licensed exchange is another sign that traditional finance is digging deeper into crypto infrastructure.
