Google Cloud Joins Puffer's Ethereum Rollup as Infrastructure Partner

Google Cloud is now operating infrastructure inside Puffer Finance's Ethereum rollup, helping deliver near-instant transaction confirmations.

A Cloud Giant Joins the Rollup Stack

Puffer Finance, the team behind the liquid restaking token pufETH, just announced that Google Cloud is joining its UniFi rollup as an infrastructure operator. Specifically, Google Cloud will run a "gateway" inside Puffer's preconfirmation service, the part that lets transactions get near-instant confirmation instead of waiting on Ethereum's usual 12-second block time.

Puffer UniFi is what's called a "based rollup," meaning it leans on Ethereum itself for security rather than a separate validator set. The tradeoff has always been speed, since based rollups inherit Ethereum's block times. Preconfirmations are the fix, and having a major cloud provider run that infrastructure adds some real-world reliability to the setup.

Why It Matters

This is one of the first times a big cloud provider has taken an active operating role inside Ethereum's rollup ecosystem, rather than just hosting a node somewhere. Puffer's team says sub-second confirmations matter most for things like AI agents making onchain transactions, where waiting even a few seconds isn't really an option. It's a small sign that enterprise cloud infrastructure and Ethereum's scaling roadmap are starting to overlap more directly.
