Ethereum's Roadmap Just Made Privacy and Quantum Security Top Priorities
Aug 12, 2026
Ethereum's new roadmap through 2029 puts privacy and quantum resistance right up there with scaling and security. Here's what that actually means.
Ethereum just dropped its roadmap for the next few years, and it's honestly a bit of a shift. Instead of only chasing speed and lower fees, the plan now puts privacy and quantum resistance right at the center, next to the usual scaling and security goals.
Why quantum matters
Quantum computers are still years away from being a real threat, but crypto people love planning ahead. If a powerful enough quantum computer ever shows up, it could theoretically break the cryptography that keeps wallets and transactions safe. Ethereum wants to be ready way before that happens.
Privacy gets a seat at the table too
On top of that, the roadmap treats privacy as something core to the network, not just a nice extra feature bolted on by some app. That's a pretty big statement for a chain that's historically been fully transparent.
So no, nothing changes for users today. But it shows where the Ethereum Foundation's head is at for the next few years, and it's less about hype and more about long-term survival.
