Ethereum Pushes Back Glamsterdam Testnet Fork After Security Concerns

Ethereum has delayed the Glamsterdam hard fork on its Hoodi testnet after auditors found security issues tied to EIP-8037 in several real-world contracts.

A Last-Minute Delay

Ethereum's next big testnet upgrade just hit a speed bump. The Glamsterdam hard fork, which was supposed to go live on the Hoodi testnet on October 26, has been pushed back with no new date set yet.

The reason is security, not scheduling. Smart contract auditor ChainSecurity flagged issues tied to one of the upgrade's proposals, EIP-8037, and found 13 real-world cases where existing contracts could be affected. The firm is now working directly with the projects involved through responsible disclosure, which is why no names or contract addresses have been shared publicly.

Better Safe Than Sorry

The Ethereum Foundation is taking the time to fully assess how big the impact could be before setting a new fork date. It's a reminder that even testnet upgrades can ripple into real production contracts if the team isn't careful.

No mainnet dates are affected yet, but expect the Glamsterdam timeline to shift until the review wraps up.
